I've been using search engines my entire life, but I have only learned about advanced searches fairly recently. An online friend challenged me to find out his last name and where he lived based on the things I already knew about him, so I had to brush up on my searching skills. With good use of narrowing search operators, sketchy websites (which I could identify by their low-quality graphics, and that some were fairly low in page rank), and knowledge of my friend, I was able to locate him. Specifying specific words in quotation marks, like usernames, helped me pick up bits of his online trail. He was kind of unhappy, but he agreed to it...
